Cruga's Chilli Biltong

My Experience

As someone relatively new to biltong, my only comparison for the Cruga Chilli Biltong (£3 for 60g) is the Nam Flava (£5 for 50g). Price-wise, Cruga offers better value, giving you more product for less money.

However, the first thing that hits you with the Cruga Chilli is the salt. It's incredibly high, I threw the package away but Tesco lists it as 7.47g per 100g. This insane level of salt unfortunately detracts from the flavour of the meat, on top of being highly unhealthy, NHS recommends no higher than 6g a day, a 60g bag has like 4.4g of salt.

While there's a noticeable chilli kick, it often gets lost, and some bites felt like chewing pure salt and spice. This extreme salt level is a major downside and easily knocks a star off the rating.

Texture-wise, I found it to be noticeably drier than the Nam Flava. While mostly chewy, I did encounter one hard, unchewable white bit, which wasn't ideal.

While it's certainly cheaper and more value, I really wouldn't recommend it based on that salt level alone.
